The Portland League is sponsoring an Educational Trip in early September 2015 to the Tri-Cities, Washington.

You are cordially invited to join this trip. One feature is a day tour of parts of the Hanford Facility on Thursday, Sept 10th.
We can take 40 members on the Hanford bus, so unfortunately, the trip is limited to the first 40 people that sign up. To make this fair, the sign up day is set for all on Monday, April 13 at noon via email or telephone to the Portland League office.

WHAT IMPACTS THE COLUMBIA RIVER?
Educational trip to tri-cities area, Washington, Sept. 9, 10, 11, 2015
Forty people will be able to tour the Hanford Facility on Thursday, September 10, 2015, as part of an education trip sponsored by LWV of Portland on “What Impacts the Columbia River.”
Other events are planned in Portland and the Tri-Cities area to learn about other impacts on the Columbia River for those that live downstream, such as farm irrigation, agricultural production, tourism and recreations, the river as a transportation corridor, as well as other economic generators. Activities, some still in the planning stage, include:
  • Tu, Sept. 8th, an evening civic education panel discussion in Portland on this topic.
    Open to the public, it is also for trip participants and other interested folks.
  • Wed, Sept. 9th, a travel day to the Tri-Cities area with lunch and museum stops and an evening lecture and social.
  • Thu, Sept. 10th, beginning in early morning, Hanford bus tour. Tour confirmed. See Note, below. Lunch is $10 per person, payable that day. (Bus is air-conditioned and has a toilet.) Perhaps evening wrap up social with question and answer session with experts.
  • Fri., Sept. 11, return home in afternoon after optional museum tour, or stay another night and spend the day visiting other museums, wineries, or recreational activities. Option possibilities will be provided.
Registration Cost for Trip Preparation:  $50 League member and $100 nonmembers.
 Registration, by email or phone to the Portland League office, begins Monday, April 13 at noon to reserve a first come first serve space on the 40 passenger bus. Final payment due by August 11th.
Transportion, meals, and lodging are at the participants’ expense. The League will help with coordination. Tri-Cities Visitor & Convention Bureau (www.VisitTri-Cities.com) is helping with Richland hotel, museum tours, trip handouts, etc.
NOTE: Hanford Tour. Only participants over 18, U.S. Citizens (and specific Foreign Nationals) are allowed on the Hanford Tour, per their regulations.  Photo ID required as well as dressing appropriately. Tours are non-smoking. Further details on being a Hanford tour participant will be provided.
