How to Join the League of Women Voters of Lane County

We encourage you to join the League of Women Voters and work with us to encourage informed and active participation in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Voting membership in the League of Women Voters is open to men and women who are citizens and at least 18 years of age. Others are eligible to join and participate as associate members. Anyone who joins the League of Women Voters of Lane County automatically becomes a member of the League of Women Voters of Oregon and the League of Women Voters of the United States.

Annual dues are $60 for individual members and $90 for two members residing in the same household. The League year begins July 1 and ends June 30. For new members who join before October 1, dues are discounted to $48 for an individual and $72 for two members in a household. Full time students receive a reduced rate of $20. Dues raise only half of the operating resources needed by the organization; additional funds are generated by contributions and fund raising projects.

Members receive our monthly newsletter, the ARGUS, as well as a quarterly publication of the League of Women Voters of Oregon, the VOTER. In addition, members periodically receive League publications and other materials to support study and discussion.

Small group discussion (unit) meetings are held monthly from October to May in members’ homes and other meeting rooms. There is also a monthly luncheon on the third Thursday from October to April and other general meetings. A member is welcome to attend any of these meetings, which are announced in the ARGUS newsletter.

There are numerous other opportunities for members’ participation. The League has several standing committees as follows:

The Voters Service committee works to register voters and to provide unbiased information to citizens on ballot measures and candidates.

The Membership committee works to welcome new members.

The Action committee advocates for government action in accordance with member-adopted statements of position.

The Finance committee raises resources for the League.

There are also study committees that research issues and write study reports for member education and discussion and committees which plan community meetings and events.
